Mandy Atkinson

A committed educator, Mandy initiated and led the development of two new successful degrees in public relations for Greenwich University. She has been teaching for over 20 years in non profit, public and private sectors and was latterly a senior lecturer for 10 years for Greenwich University Business School. Here she led the undergraduate degree in Public Relations as well as mentoring colleagues in the Business School undertaking teacher training, before re-training as a TA psychotherapist. She is a visiting tutor at several colleges.

Initially training as a humanistic counsellor, Mandy made the decision to re-train as a TA psychotherapist a number of years ago. She gradually withdrew from her teaching and research as a university academic, dedicating her time fully to her clinical practice initially as a psychotherapist, then later as a supervisor, trainer, examiner and moderator. Mandy is passionate about all aspects of her work. She has a special interest in working with eating disorders and weight, having worked extensively in this area throughout her career and is currently researching and writing in this area. She enjoys a busy clinical practice both as a psychotherapist and supervisor from her practice in Kent plus is passionate about teaching, believing that clinical experience brings teaching to life. She has a special interest, supported by her own research, in how people learn and specifically the student experience of learning. She has undertaken specialist training programmes with visually and hearing-impaired learners.

As well as holding an RGN in Nursing, a Master’s degree in the field of Strategic Marketing and two teaching qualifications including a Certificate in Education (Cert. Ed) and a Certificate in eLearning Teaching and Training (CeLTT), Mandy is also a UKCP registered psychotherapist and supervisor, a Certified Transactional Analyst, a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst and a BACP accredited counsellor.
