How to Write a Master's Level Case Study
A Two-Day Online Course for the Advanced Diploma and CTA Section C
Introduction
Whether you are writing the extended case study for the Advanced Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy or Section C of the CTA written examination, the task is much the same: a coherent account of one piece of therapy, written to a clear structure, that evidences the competencies the markers are looking for, within a tight word limit.
This course takes you through it section by section, from choosing your client to the final reflection. It covers both assessments, so you can work on whichever you are preparing for, or both.
What will I learn?
- Understanding the competencies and how to evidence them in your writing
- Choosing the right client for your case study
- Defining the shape of the case study and maintaining continuity and flow
- Presenting factual information with a clear rationale, including the first meeting
- How to approach diagnosis and differential diagnosis
- Understanding treatment planning, and narrating the process with clinical evidence
- Reflecting on ethics, consent and anonymisation
- Using narrative tense with confidence
- Using diagrams and formatting to support your account
- Making the most of the word limit
- Preparing for submission, and understanding how case studies are marked
What outcomes can I expect?
By the end of the two days you will have a clear plan for your case study, section by section. You will also receive a Connexus Institute certificate for 12 hours of CPD.
