Bridging into Organisational Work Using TA
A professional diploma for experienced therapeutic practitioners extending their practice into organisational contexts
Introduction
This diploma is designed for experienced therapeutic practitioners who want to broaden their professional scope by applying their Transactional Analysis (TA) expertise within organisational settings. It offers a structured, confidence-building pathway for those who feel drawn to organisational work, coaching, consultancy, facilitation, training, leadership development and beyond, but who are unsure how to begin, how to translate their existing skills into a new setting, or how to build a credible professional presence in that arena.
At a time when many in the helping professions are reflecting on the future of their field, the changing world of work, and the impact of wider societal and technological change, this programme offers a way to diversify and extend your psychological repertoire while remaining rooted in the depth and integrity of TA. Over six modules you will learn to shift your frame of reference from the individual to the system, to navigate organisational dynamics, and to develop the mindset, skill set and professional stance needed to work ethically and effectively in organisational contexts.
This is a vocationally oriented, practice-rich and identity-forming programme. You will work in small groups, drawing on your existing professional experience for an engaging, interactive learning experience that helps you find your niche and take your first confident steps into a wider field of application.
Who is this diploma for?
This programme is designed for experienced therapeutic practitioners, with a grounding in TA, who feel ready to extend their practice beyond the consulting room. It will be particularly valuable if you:
- Want to expand from the helping professions into organisational work
- Are seeking a more diverse or portfolio-based career
- Are curious about how your earlier career, combined with your current skills and TA expertise, might apply in an organisational setting
- Feel unsure how to translate your knowledge into a new context
- Want practical, concrete steps you can take to get started
- Are looking for a structured, ethical and well-supported pathway into organisational work
If you have TA training, professional experience and an interest in organisational life, this diploma gives you the scaffolding to step more confidently into a new arena.
How will the course be structured?
Set over six two-day modules, the programme uses a blended, participative approach: face-to-face contact complemented by preparation through pre-reading and pre-session tasks. Teaching combines large-group discussion with small-group experiential exercises, and thoughts, observations, questioning and critique are all encouraged.
Each module includes experiential, project-based learning in which you work on real-world case studies and scenarios. There is a strong emphasis on practice, on developing an organisational mindset rather than simply acquiring techniques, and on forming a clear professional stance, role and sense of value.
What does it cover?
The programme is delivered across six two-day modules:
- From individual to system: shifting your TA frame of reference from the clinical to the organisational
- Understanding organisations: systems, culture, leadership, structure, power and organisational dynamics
- A five-step approach to organisational intervention and the phases of organisational work, mapped across your existing knowledge and skill sets. The approach draws on the work of Kurt Lewin and was later developed by organisation development theorists such as Richard Beckhard and Edgar Schein into the foundational process used today
- Developing your niche: exploring different organisational roles, ethical practice and the practical realities of the work
- Working with change: your own transition into an expanding professional identity, alongside understanding change in organisational contexts characterised by anxiety, pace and complexity
- Assessment and presentations
What will you gain?
This diploma is the start of a journey, not its destination. Organisational work is a deep field that develops over a career; what this programme gives you is a credible, ethical and confident point of entry. As you move into this field, we warmly encourage you to continue in regular supervision to support your developing practice. Ongoing supervision, ideally with someone experienced in organisational work, offers a reflective space to think through live assignments, attend to the ethical and relational complexities of working in systems, and keep building your confidence and competence well beyond the programme as part of your continuing professional development.
By the end of this course you will have built the grounding to:
- Begin applying TA systemically, working with organisations as well as with individuals
- Read organisational dynamics, culture and change processes with a more informed eye
- Use a clear, five-step approach as a framework for structuring organisational assignments
- Approach the practicalities of positioning, contracting for and pricing your services
- Draw on yourself as an instrument in organisational work with growing confidence
- Begin shaping a professional identity and finding your own niche in this field
- Open up your professional repertoire and extend your reach
Why this diploma matters
Practitioners with a grounding in TA are well equipped to work in organisations, yet many never make the transition because they lack a bridge. Each field of application has its own frame of reference and, unlike clinical work, the organisational context offers a wide range of possible roles. This programme provides a safe, structured environment in which to explore your professional identity, a practical roadmap for entering the field, a community of peers making the same transition, and a clear sense of legitimacy as you broaden your practice.
Assessment and qualification requirements
Assessment comprises:
- Attendance on all twelve days of the formal training
- One micro-teach on an organisational subject of your choice
- One group assessment of a live recording
- One 3,000 word case study
- Additional subject-specific reading and preparatory activities throughout the course
You can complete the assessments to suit your own timetable, provided they are finished within one year of the course commencing. On successful completion you will be awarded a Connexus Institute Diploma, with CPD hours recognised as part of our Ongoing Professional Development programme.
Please note: this is a continuing professional development diploma. It is distinct from, and not a route to, the Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) qualification in any field.
