Advanced Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy
Qualify as a psychotherapist with our Master’s Level Advanced Diploma, on the route to UKCP registration.
About the Advanced Diploma
The Advanced Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy is the qualification you finish your training with. Awarded by Connexus Institute, it is a Master’s Level professional qualification in Column C of the SCoPEd framework, and it qualifies you to practise as a psychotherapist.
It is assessed against the criteria UKATA uses for UKCP registration, so one body of evidence earns you both. When your portfolio is assessed successfully you receive the Advanced Diploma, and we submit the same portfolio to UKATA on your behalf.
Where the Diploma qualifies you as a counsellor, this goes further in depth: four years rather than three, more clinical practice, more supervision, and more of your own therapy behind you.
- Length
- Four years, part-time: one further year after the Diploma
- When
- Eleven weekends a year, September to July
- Where
- 5 The Drive, Hove
- Level
- Master’s Level, Column C of the SCoPEd framework
- Leads to
- UKCP registration as a psychotherapist, through UKATA
Is it right for you?
This is the qualification for people who want to practise as psychotherapists. You might be:
- coming to the end of the four years of Connexus training and ready to qualify
- holding our Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and wanting to go further
- a counsellor or psychotherapist trained elsewhere, looking for a TA qualification and UKCP registration through UKATA
Where to start
You don’t apply to the Advanced Diploma itself. You join a stage, and the Advanced Diploma is what you come away with at the end.
If you have trained somewhere else, a good deal of it may already count through our accreditation of prior learning (APL). Talk to us before you assume you’d be starting again.
Start with TA 101
Two days, run monthly, and the way most people begin. A grounding in TA before you commit to anything longer.
Book onto TA 101 →Already partway through?
If you are training with us already, you are on this pathway. Stage Three is the year that completes it.
See Stage Three →Trained somewhere else?
If you already practise, or have trained in another modality, some of what you have done is likely to count.
Ask us where to start →How you get there
One training, taken a stage at a time, over four years. Each stage stands on its own and counts towards the next, so you never commit to the whole thing at once. The Diploma comes at the end of year three, and the Advanced Diploma at the end of year four.
