Burnout Recovery & Resilience
A One-Day Workshop with Claire Daplyn
Connexus is delighted to welcome Claire Daplyn, MSc, PTSTA (P), author of the acclaimed Burnout Recovery Workbook, for a one-day in-person workshop addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing mental health professionals today.
Burnout is increasingly recognised as a serious professional health risk that extends far beyond simple stress or tiredness. Research defines burnout as a multidimensional syndrome involving emotional, physical and cognitive exhaustion, detachment from work, and a reduced sense of professional efficacy. Left unaddressed, burnout can undermine your well-being, confidence, and capacity to work effectively with clients.
This workshop equips you with research-based understanding, practical recovery tools, and strategies for sustainable practice. Drawing on Transactional Analysis, Polyvagal-informed practice, and resilience-based frameworks, you'll learn how to identify burnout early, regulate stress effectively, and build a framework for long-term professional wellbeing.
Whether you're establishing yourself in practice, balancing supervision and study, or carrying the demands of an established caseload, the risk of burnout is real. This workshop provides an opportunity to understand those risks, learn how to respond effectively, and develop strategies for long-term resilience. You'll also gain tools for supporting clients who may be experiencing burnout themselves—an increasingly common presentation across professions and life stages.

What does Burnout Recovery & Resilience cover?
Understanding Burnout Theory and Models
You'll explore the latest research and models of burnout, including Maslach, Job Demands-Resources (JD-R), Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT), and emotional intelligence frameworks. The workshop distinguishes burnout from stress and depression, helping you recognise the specific patterns and warning signs.
Personal Assessment and Self-Awareness
You'll map your personal "mismatch profile" across six key areas: workload, control, reward, community, fairness, and values. This assessment helps identify your specific vulnerabilities and strengths, creating a foundation for targeted intervention.
Embodied Recovery Practices
The workshop introduces evidence-based practices to complete the stress cycle and regulate the nervous system. You'll explore how trauma-informed approaches and Polyvagal theory inform recovery strategies, learning techniques you can implement immediately.
Emotional Intelligence and Resilience Building
You'll practice specific emotional intelligence skills including stress awareness, self-regulation, and building meaningful connections. These form the foundation of sustainable resilience rather than simply managing symptoms.
Clinical Application
The workshop addresses how to recognise and support clients experiencing burnout, including ethical considerations and appropriate referral pathways. You'll gain insights that enrich your therapeutic practice whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
What outcomes can I expect?
Immediate Practical Skills
You'll leave with confidence to identify burnout in yourself and others, alongside specific self-care and regulation techniques you can use straight away. The workshop includes creating a personalised resilience plan tailored to your circumstances and practice context.
Enhanced Clinical Understanding
You'll develop a deeper understanding of the psychological and physiological drivers of stress and burnout, enabling more effective support for clients, supervisees, or colleagues navigating these challenges.
Long-term Professional Development
The workshop provides frameworks for distinguishing between systemic and personal factors in burnout, helping you advocate for necessary changes whilst building personal resilience. You'll understand how to balance individual coping strategies with broader professional and organisational considerations.
Continued Learning Resources
You'll receive Claire's Burnout Recovery Workbook for ongoing practice and reflection, plus 6 hours of CPD credit. The workbook serves as a practical resource you can return to as your career develops and circumstances change.
This interactive workshop combines teaching, reflection, group discussion, and experiential exercises in a supportive environment. You'll connect with peers whilst developing both personal insight and professional skills that serve your practice and wellbeing long-term.
